This registry is an open registry. All miniature pigs are eligible for registry.
Those with unknown background will be registered as foundation mini pigs. Those previously registered with other registries and fit the criteria of the miniature pig can be registered as true miniature pigs.
Those that are crossing with other small to medium breeds for a purpose of adding to the breed can be registered as experimental. (such as kune kune and meishan crosses)
The Miniature Pig Registry is a registry service that was originally set up to encourage responsible breeding of true miniature potbelly pigs. With the new influx of interest more in responsible breeding of a sound smaller pig but not necessarily worried about keeping the potbelly pig characteristics the registry expanded to include the Mini Pig Registry also.
This registry service is an open registry service to encourage all responsible breeders of mini pigs to register their pigs.
The goal of this registry is to validate size, confirmation and soundness of the miniature pig. By providing this registry service; bloodlines and genetics can be traced and thus guaranteeing a true miniature pig.
If you are looking to purchase a pet pig. Look for a MPR certified breeder and pigs registered with MPR/MPPR. Those breeders who register their pigs with MPR go through an application process and validation process to ensure the pigs are represented correctly. The goal of this registry is to provide a better purchasing experience for the purchaser and a registry for breeders who are serious about their breeding. It will be a place to track, improve and record pedigree for those purchasing pigs and for future breeding purposes.

The miniature pigs will be registered in 3 different classes.
Classic Miniatures. These are pigs that have shown characteristics of a mini pig and are over 50lbs BUT under 80lbs and/ or 15-20 inches at the withers
True Miniatures: these are mini pigs that have shown the characteristics of a true mini pig and are under 50lbs and under 15 inches at the withers.
Tiny Miniatures : Tiny minis are under 35lbs and under 15 inches, genetically sound and pedigreed. Toy minis are still rare despite all the misleading ads you see on thee Internet. It is challenging and takes time and dedication to breed for this size. But by providing this registry, we can strive to provide a truly sound toy mini pig. A genetically defective or malnourished pig will not be eligible for this title

Foundation status pigs offspring are eligible for true miniature status if they fit the mini pig criteria set forth by this registry, as piglets they will receive pending status. They may be fully registered at 3 years of age.
We encourage responsible breeding.
Pet piglets will be registered as such and pet boars must be neutered. We do not require pet sows to be spayed but recommend it.
Breeders/ Show boars and sows will be registered as such.
Breeders can also receive a certificate of validation from MPR.
